How Laura Reduced Pain and Built Strength

About Laura

Long days in the tech industry, often stretching into the evening, left Laura mentally drained and unmotivated to focus on her health and fitness after work.

Although fitness had always been part of her life, the pandemic shifted her focus almost entirely to work. By age 33, Laura was dealing with persistent neck, shoulder, and back pain, digestive issues, high stress, and feeling unhealthy despite trying to stay active. She recognized that she needed to make her health a non-negotiable priority.

Laura was drawn to Body + Soul Fitness for its calm, clean environment and philosophy focused on long-term, sustainable health, not quick fixes.

“I saw the principles you have: being active because you want to be healthy and long-term commitment to yourself. That was exactly what I needed.”

The Challenge

Laura knew she wanted to feel better – pain-free, less stressed and able to comfortably fit into clothes that had started to feel snug – but didn’t know how to get there in a way that truly addressed what her body needed.

Laura wanted to:

Laura was matched with personal trainer and nutrition coach, Gurmehar. With his well-rounded expertise in strength training, nutrition, and mobility, Gurmehar was the perfect support she was missing.

“I reached my limit alone. I needed someone who actually knows what they’re doing”

During her initial assessment, Laura quickly realized they wouldn’t just jump straight into workouts. Instead, Gurmehar focused on understanding where Laura was in her current health and fitness, where her pain was coming from and what might be causing it.

What Gurmehar discovered was that Laura had the desire to make changes, but lacked the science-based training and nutrition knowledge to do it safely and effectively on her own. She didn’t need to try harder.

She needed expert structure.

The Program

Structural Balance and Foundation

Laura’s program first focused on helping her move well, before adding weight or intensity. If they had jumped straight into hard training, her pain would have continued. This phase gave Laura the physical foundation to train safely and effectively.

This phase focused on:

Within six weeks, Laura noticed less neck stiffness, better posture, and reduced discomfort during her workday.

Intensification

Once her pain improved, training intensity increased.

Laura was introduced to more challenging, full-body movements like squats, lunges, and split squats. These exercises helped her build strength, and improve her body composition, while continuing to move better.

Strength and Muscle Gain

After reaching her initial fat loss goal, Gurmehar shifted Laura’s program again to keep her progressing.

Instead of trying to get leaner, Laura worked on:

Gurmehar wanted to focus on building muscle to improve her shape, strength, and long-term health as opposed to further fat loss.

Nutrition

Nutrition supported every phase of Laura’s training journey.

Early changes focused on:

Calorie and protein tracking were introduced to help Laura understand how much she needed to eat to feel good, recover, and see results.

As her goals changed, her nutrition changed too:

Gurmehar noted that Laura’s approach to nutrition wasn’t about restriction. It was about teaching her how to eat in a way that matched her body, her workday, and her training so she could feel better, recover properly, and make steady progress.

The Results

“In the first two months, I was already practically 100% out of pain.”

What surprised Laura most was how quickly her daily discomfort she had accepted as “normal” began to disappear. Sitting at her desk no longer meant constant neck and shoulder tension. She wasn’t ending her days in physical discomfort.

At the same time, other changes started happening. Her digestion improved, her energy became more stable, and within five months, she noticed her body looking leaner and her clothes fitting differently.

“I feel lighter because of the food I’m eating now. My energy is better, and my mental health is better.”

Long workdays were still mentally draining, and some evenings she arrived at sessions feeling tired. What made the difference was consistency and accountability. Gurmehar would always check in with her before their sessions to ensure she was still showing up – even if she felt tired. Even on stressful days, her health no longer got pushed aside. She developed a new awareness of her body. Instead of feeling generally “off,” she could recognize tension, understand what caused it, and adjust.

“Sometimes I think my body is even better now than when I was younger.”

One of the most meaningful milestones was fitting back into clothes that held sentimental value. “Finally, my clothes are fitting better. I have clothes that are important to me, and I felt like I got them back.”

Today, Laura feels stronger, more confident, and more connected to her body than she has in years.

Conclusion

Laura’s story is a powerful reminder of what happens when life gets busy, work gets demanding, and mental exhaustion pushes your health to the bottom of the priority list.

But just as Laura experienced, you don’t have to figure it out alone. With the right guidance, structure, and consistency, taking care of your health becomes easier, and far more effective. A personalized program helps you move better, feel better, and often achieve more than you thought was possible.

Just like Laura, when you have the right support behind you, progress stops feeling overwhelming and starts feeling achievable, leaving you not only healthier but more confident.
