Fascial Fitness – A Guide to Better Mobility Part 2

Introduction

we are going to discuss stretching, its benefits, the right way to stretch and I am going to demonstrate 4 very simple stretches that you can do every day to help bring the freedom of movement back into your life.

Most people tend to have aches, pains and stiffness due to the lack of daily movement. We sit all day at our desks typing away. We go home and then we sit in front of the tv. We try and combat this by doing the right things such as drinking the right amount of water per day and exercising. What you need to add to that daily routine is a gentle stretching program.

Stretching stimulates your fascia and connective tissue network. It regenerates it, it hydrates it and makes it more supple. This translates into better movement, less aches, pains and stiffness but more importantly, it protects your body from injury.

I am now going to show you 4 very effective stretches that you can do 3-4 times a week to start you down the road to better movement.

1. Chest Opener Stretch

The first area we are going to stretch is the neck and chest area. We want to open up the chest to help with breathing and to counteract the stiffening of fascia that is happening from hours hunched over our keyboards or cellphones. I am going to demonstrate the stretch first and then we can do it together.

2. Side Neck Stretch

The second stretch is also for your neck but it targets the sides of your neck. This stretch can be done sitting or standing.

3. Hip Opener

Our third stretch is to target the hips and to help open them up. To bring a little relief for people that sit for long lengths of time. This stretch can be done sitting on a chair or on the floor. I will demonstrate both.

Standing Full Stretch

The last movement in our introduction to stretching is a full body stretch

We hope that this introduction to stretching will get you feeling freer in your movements and will start you on your journey to better fascial and connective tissue fitness. 10-30 minutes a day is all it takes to gently stretch your way to better recovery time, efficient muscle work, less aches and pains and a more youthful resilient body.
